In early 2015, the Rose 13 Creative team was engaged by Chinese client AVIC Vision and tasked with providing all new creative direction and media content for their 4D dark ride project in development.

Beginning by writing and storyboarding a new show script, then designing new characters, casting and shooting live action elements and directing the work of CG animators at BASE FX, the Rose 13 team’s total attraction upgrade was completed in less than nine months.

With all new content having now been completed and approved, Brian Smith directed the on-site installation and programming of all ride, show and technical elements, overseeing a multi-national team of vendors and technicians.

Brian, Yan and the Rose 13 team were responsible for supervising all creative aspects of this unique 360-degree, 3-D virtual reality shoot, working closely with a Beijing-based production crew and local production support.

Created to celebrate the launch of Renault’s new high-tech SUV into the Chinese automotive marketplace, the 4-minute VR film highlighted the vehicle’s array of advanced features within the context of an emotional, character-driven story. Filming locations included downtown Shanghai, the Gobi Desert, and the Shunan Bamboo Sea, among other visually striking sites across China.

When completed, the immersive experience debuted at the 2016 Beijing Auto Show and was an instant hit with attendees.

On behalf of the creative and production team at Riva Digital, and working closely with IP holders Square Enix, media director Brian Smith oversaw the development and direction of this CG-animated 3-D ride film, now open at City Walk Dubai.

Featuring popular Final Fantasy VII characters and settings, with an all-new immersive storyline, the immersion tunnel format allows for a thrilling ride experience for visitors of all ages.

Working with Riva Creative USA, Rose 13‘s Brian Smith served as Creative Director, Producer and Show Writer on the Bollywood Parks Dubai project, now open to the public in the U.A.E.

Responsible for creative direction, script writing and production oversight, through successful completion of detailed design phase, Brian’s scope encompassed the Bollywood Film Studios zone, featuring Hall of Heroes, and the attractions Ra.One: Unleashed, Krrish: Hero’s Flight, and Cinemagic featuring Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara.

Responsible for media content creation for Constellation Brands multimedia event, introducing the new Clos Du Bois campaign theme, “Made in California, Fluent in French.”

Working with marketing agency High Wide & Handsome, and in partnership with Storyspace Design, Brian Smith and the Rose 13 editorial team created an original 30-minute HD film and supervised a custom, venue-specific media installation on site in San Francisco.

The Information and Communications Pavilion, co-sponsored by China Mobile and China Telecom, and designed and produced by BRC Imagination Arts, showcased the history and future of communication on a grand scale. As the lead Media Producer for the attraction, Brian Smith was responsible for the production of two large format, special venue movies, supervising a multinational team of actors and crew, artists and animators, and overseeing on-site installation in Shanghai.

Combining these centerpiece films with innovative handheld content, the pavilion was honored with a slew of prestigious international awards, including a 2011 THEA Award for Integration of Technology and Storytelling.
